PADDINGTON
MODERN CLASSIC
Residential Landscape Garden DESIGN PROJECT
_
A complete reworking of a previously derelict garden in Paddington establishes a highly resolved outdoor room, where spatial clarity and material restraint underpin the design intent. This landscape design is conceived as a direct extension of the interior architecture, aligning a modern classic language of clean geometry, softened edges, and a restrained, tonal palette to achieve a seamless threshold between inside and out within this Paddington setting.
The primary organising element is a continuous, candy cane concrete bench that operates as both infrastructure and sculpture. It defines an intimate dining zone while choreographing circulation and supporting a variety of seating conditions along its length. This gesture is grounded by large-format limestone paving, whose scale and subtle variation create a cohesive horizontal plane and reinforce a sense of quiet permanence in this Paddington garden.
The outdoor kitchen is expressed as a monolithic concrete volume, integrating the BBQ within a robust, architectural benchtop. A lining of handmade tiles introduces a crafted counterpoint, adding texture, reflectivity, and fine grain detail to an otherwise restrained material palette, reinforcing the modern classic character of the overall landscape design.
A backdrop of precisely clipped cloud trees establishes a layered green screen, providing spatial enclosure and a soft architectural rhythm behind the seating zone. Above, mature palms, craned into position, form a dynamic canopy, delivering vertical structure, filtered light, and movement.
Collectively, the composition balances the built form and planting, creating a calibrated environment that supports both social interaction and quiet retreat, harmonious flow, and enduring materiality, grounded within the distinctive character of Paddington.
