Dwarf Date Palm

Phoenix Roebelenii

Phoenix roebelenii is more commonly known as a dwarf or pygmy date palm and it’s a species of date palm native to south-eastern Asia, from southwestern China, northern Laos and northern Vietnam. It’s the perfect miniature palm tree.

This elegant, sculptural palm is small to medium-sized, slow-growing up to 2-3m, and cold hardy.  It’s happy in the ground or in a pot, by a pool, inside or outdoors.  They do best in filtered light or partial sun, however, will also thrive in heavy shade so it’s a perfect specimen for underplanting when young or as an indoor plant. It adds that special tropical vibe to any garden.

Foliage is dark green, fine and feathery with a spiny trunk. Old, dead fronds should be pruned off to expose the trunk as the tree ages and to keep it neat. It likes to be planted in a free-draining, rich soil, is drought-hardy and very low maintenance.
