The Polka Dot Begonia

Begonia maculata

Begonia maculata or Polka Dot begonia as it’s often called, is a stunning show-stopper to grow in your garden or have as an indoor pot-plant.  It has beautiful olive-green, angel-wing shaped leaves with metallic silvery white polka dot markings and a burgundy contrast colour on the underside of the leaf. They flower randomly throughout the year and the blooms are sprays of open bell-like red or white flowers with bright yellow centres on bamboo-looking knotty stems.

This eye-catching plant likes a humid and warm environment and a bright yet shaded spot in the home or garden.  They love a bit of a mist spray and to be watered regularly but be careful of oversaturating. For a lovely large container plant, re-pot to a bigger pot every 12 months and feed with a slow-release fertiliser.
