Northern Beaches Abode

Manly Vale Project

My team and I loved working on a completely renovated front and back garden of this Northern Beaches home. The house now looks and feels like it is established and grounded into the landscape – it finally has a beautiful sense of place.

We’ve packed a lot into a medium sized space - the generous plunge pool, a built-in daybed for chilling and a cooking, dining, and entertaining area. A family lives here so it was so important to have a lawn for the children to play on as well as a sweet cubby house.

To create this earthy coastal haven, we used genuine natural materials like this limestone paving, hardwood timber, core-ten steel edging and boulders that transect and breakup the edging.

There is colour and foliage texture all year round in this garden because we’ve planted a palette of palms, natives, grasses, and some exotic species such as Sedum Autumn Joy, Elephant ears and Olive that are hardy and drought tolerant.

More colour was added on the retaining wall, in one of our favourite paint colours called Dawn Patrol by Tint. The stunning tiles we’ve used in a repeat pattern along the step risers make a confident statement of style. A built-in BBQ is always our preference over a portable – it totally raises this entertaining space to a much higher level.

The edge of the retaining wall and steps become seating when entertaining a crowd and I love how the steps flow seamlessly to become daybed sunlounges. The rustling palm fronds overhead give you the sense of a ceiling and some tropical dappled shade.
