Marrickville Garden

Landscape Design Project

Some like flowers. Some want to grow their own food.  Our client who owns this garden in Sydney’s inner west wanted a verdant family garden for their young children.

The garden is south-facing, and the rear of the garden gets quite a bit of sun, whereas the section closest to the house doesn’t get much sunshine at all.  We positioned the lawn closer to the rear of the site to benefit from the sun and planted numerous shade tolerant plants closer to the house, such as, Liriope, Bergenia, Raphiolepsis and Pittosporum.

We also planted species that love the sun such as Elephant ears, Kalanchoe Copper Spoons, Olive, Dracaena marginata and Lomandra.  The Elephant Ears are loving their position.

We recycled existing bricks from the site within the garden to make stepping pads.  Native Violet ground cover planted in-between soften the edges, integrating the hard and soft elements underfoot.

The water bowl and fountain create movement and evokes a cooling relaxed ambience. The lighting plan brings the garden alive after the sun goes down. The crowning jewel in this sub-tropical is a cubby house with slippery-slide nested amongst the mix of native and exotic species.

We maximised the way this garden could be enjoyed by a young family utilising every corner of the garden.
