The Pink Stunner

Syzygium ‘Cascade’

There’s nothing shy about Syzygium ‘Cascade’. A native hybrid of the powderpuff lilly pilly and the riberry, this weeping shrub is exuberance made leaf and flower. New growth unfurls in deep shell-pink, deepening through wine tones before settling into a glossy evergreen calm. In spring and summer, soft pink powder-puff blooms appear—fluffy, generous pom-poms that hum with bees and delight birds, followed by clusters of edible pink fruit.

‘Cascade’ manages that rare balance: showy, yet somehow sophisticated. It drapes itself gracefully, a waterfall of colour and texture, perfect for screening, hedging or simply standing alone and being admired. Hardy and psyllid-resistant, it shrugs off light frost and dry spells once established.

Give it full sun or part shade, mulch it well, water it kindly for its first season. Tip prune when young—three times a year is ideal—to coax dense, blushing growth. A slow-release native fertiliser in spring keeps it happy.

In a garden of quiet greens, Syzygium ‘Cascade’ is a gentle exclamation, proof that beauty and resilience can coexist, and that pink in the garden always sparks joy!
