Handmade for Good

Australian Ceramicists

When you buy something made by a person, there is something special there, and you do feel it. The consciousness with which a thing is made is often more important than the thing itself
— J. Donald Walters

All hand made things have something of their maker in them and these stunning Objects of Desire, available through Garden Life, are the work of three Australian ceramicists, who have carefully crafted a very special collection of hand-made vessels, exclusively for instore purchase.

OBJECTS OF VIRTUE

Valerie Vigar is a Sydney-based ceramic artist who formerly trained as a fashion designer.  Her earthen vessels in clay have an other-worldly character, a beautiful play on shape and form, with an ancient tribal yet contemporary appearance.

Inspiration for these pieces comes from the Maasai tribe in Africa, where decorative elements have been playfully reimagined on stoneware.

SONRA CERAMICS

These poetic pots are hand built by David Sucking and detailed with organic forms and pattern.  David is a skilled ceramicist from the south coast of NSW and his study of pattern on these pots make them look like holy sacramental receptacles from an age-old civilisation.

CURLY MULLET CERAMICS

Joshua Davy is a made by hand artist based in Brooklyn NSW and he emphasises a playfulness and fascination with the depth of surfaces.  Josh’s artistic experimentation is centred around high-fired stoneware with non-toxic, glazes that are vibrantly beautiful and safe to use and enjoy.

While our pots come from all over the world, there’s nothing more rewarding than partnering with local makers to see beautiful unique pieces come to life.” – Richard Unsworth
