BONDI JUNCTION

Balcony Courtyard Garden DESIGN PROJECT

_

The Scandi-style interiors of this home were extended outside into the rooftop garden making the two spaces come together as a whole. This terrace house belongs to a family with young children, so the backyard needed to cater to two age groups at opposite extremes. Tricky! The adults needed a place to entertain friends and family so a statement built-in BBQ established the ultimate outdoor kitchen with handmade Moroccan tiles running up the entire height of the wall behind the BBQ to add drama and major impact to the space.

A Frangipani tree adds much needed shade for the kids to play under and a sandpit/box on casters for ease of flexible placement. The dark, moody colours were chosen specifically to allow the boundaries to appear to recede and the plant foliage to pop. The plants themselves were chosen for their interesting foliage, textural qualities. Beanbag seating can be cleverly stored and cleaned, simply hung on the walls and hosed down.
