Green Velvet

Alocasia Micholitzia ‘Frydek’

Alocasia micholitzia ‘Frydek’ or Green Velvet has the deepest, velvety green foliage  with creamy white veining, that feels, luxurious, cooling and calming.

This tropical plant looks so beautiful but be warned it is toxic if ingested by people or fur babies, so keep it out of reach.  If leaves get dusty, just wipe them with a damp cloth to keep them looking lush and feel free to prune any yellowing or dead leaves.

You will be making a statement with Green Velvet in your garden and it thrives as a very popular indoor plant in a warm, humid and well-lit surrounds where the light is indirect.  They are mong NASA’s top 10 air-purifying plants and love to be watered regularly and particularly in summer, keep the soil moist but not too soggy. Best way to tell is to stick your finger in the soil before you water. The plant will develop fungal issues if over watered.  During the cooler months you won’t need to water as often.  If you live anywhere with really chilly temperatures and frosts in winter, take your Green Velvet indoors as it won’t last long outdoors.
